POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE ASSOCIATION

"Serving the People...

Protecting the Environment"

 BACKGROUND

In 1971 the Association was formed as a non-profit organization by people who were dedicated to the preservation of our lake.  The Association name and Association mission statement have changed with time to align with community needs.  The revisions were made to define a community organization with an active interest in the concerns of the PK community and with the identities that serve the community.  Membership is open to all interested in joining with others to cause a significant increase in community presence to address common concerns and coordinated community involvement.

 MISSION STATEMENT

The Possum Kingdom Lake Association is organized as a group to protect the lake's environment and bring people together as a community of shared interest or need. Possum Kingdom Lake Association will build awareness of shared needs through promotion and outreach by providing forums for community involvement with a priority of protecting the lake's resources and lake community.

8 November, 2010  BRA Director's Special Meeting
The presentation by an outside consultant detailing the elements and costs for a new license and for decommissioning presented at the 25 October meeting was again presented.   A BRA staff member also repeated a presentation outlining the facility repair work that would be required to continue generation. And also the work required to support decommissioning, including new piping to release water at required flow rates in lieu of operating the hydroelectric facility  to meet downstream water requirements.  The estimated costs related to restoring the facility, estimated income from power generation and methods of financing the required restoration were incorporated into the BRA water supply business plan using a computer model, by the BRA staff.  The resulting presentation illustrated different financing methods and the resulting increases for each method in the rates charged to the water customers to offset the power generation costs.  Board members asked a few questions about the presentation that were quickly answered.  A motion was made and seconded to proceed with the decommissioning.  The motion was unanimously approved.
The Authority posted a summary of the of meeting  to decommission the hydroelectric generating facility at Morris Shepard Dam on their web site www.brazos.org or (Click Here).
