 BACKGROUND

In 1971 the Association was formed as a non-profit organization by people who were dedicated to the preservation of our lake.  The Association name and Association mission statement have changed with time to align with community needs.  The revisions were made to define a community organization with an active interest in the concerns of the PK community and with the identities that serve the community.  Membership is open to all interested in joining with others to cause a significant increase in community presence to address common concerns and coordinated community involvement.

 MISSION STATEMENT

The Possum Kingdom Lake Association is organized as a group to protect the lake's environment and bring people together as a community of shared interest or need. Possum Kingdom Lake Association will build awareness of shared needs through promotion and outreach by providing forums for community involvement with a priority of protecting the lake's resources and lake community.

25 January  Possum Kingdom Lake Items at BRA DIRECTOR'S MEETING


The BRA board of directors met and passed a resolution to include all undeveloped strips of property located between a surveyed block and a road.  The available land adjacent to roads and needed for county right-of-way compliance standards shall, be conveyed subject to such use.

The BRA board allowed for a residential lease agreement with Costello Island.  The new residential lease will be for approximately 11 acres that have up to 10 cottage sites for single family residents.  This lease agreement is subject to the sale option offer by Patterson to the Costello leases.

The Board entered into a non-residential lease agreement that will include an air strip, boat landing and barn and grazing area that is currently leased by Costello Island.  The lease will run concurrent with BRA residential lease for a period of 20 years with a 10 year extension.

RESIDENTIAL LEASE INFORMATION SUMMARY > 2006 - 2008

In July and October of 2007 the Authority Directors  adopted a new methodology for residential lease rates, canceled the lease discount  for those over 65 with homesteads and adopted multiple significant revisions to the "new" Residential Lease Form adopted in 2006.  In May of 2008 a moratorium on issuing all new BRA leases was adopted because of the concept of selling BRA land to a third party was being considered.  Lease information details available under the "Lease Information" tab on the left. 



DIVESTITURE SUMMARY PREPARED AND POSTED BY THE BRAZOS RIVER AUTHORITY

The Brazos River Authority posted  on their web site (www.brazos.org) a document  titled POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE DIVESTITURE.  The document has four section headings: Historical Timeline, Frequently asked Questions, Board Action regarding Divestiture and AG Opinions. Palo Pinto Appraisal District Lawsuit
February 2010 Update

The tax case was scheduled to be heard by the Court of Appeals in December.  Mr. Patterson’s lawyer filed an Americus brief before the hearing so the hearing was cancelled to allow for time to review the brief.  The Court of Appeals will reschedule the hearing at a date to be determined. 
There are no scheduled timelines for a hearing or decision in this case.
